The 2011 College World Series Championship between the Gators of University of Florida and the University of South Carolina Gamecocks features differing roads to Omaha's best of three title series.
The Gamecocks hope to continue their Omaha winning streak to 14 games dating back to their loser bracket championship run in 2010. In addition, they can finish a perfect 10-0 run in the College World Series with a 2-0 sweep.
However, the Gators feel a need to avenge an early season debacle in Gainesville at the hands of the Gamecocks. Their high power offense make them an ultimate test of the stingy Gamecock pitching staff who has only given up 18 runs in the whole tournament.
Florida is the favorite based on the TR Factor, but the formula is weighted towards rank and seed. As seen below, the Gamecocks now lead Florida in hits per game and give up less runs, while Florida gives up less hits and more runs.

UPDATE!!! Gamecocks won the extra inning pitching duel 2-1. The Florida Gators committed 3 errors and tried to strike at the end, but the Gator trying to score was gunned down from left field to end the inning. The Gamecocks struck back in the final inning by sending their injured first baseman on a steal. The catcher threw it to the center fielder because he missed the bag, and the center fielder threw it to some fans in the stands as Christian Walker made towards third. Fortunately, the winded Walker took his base and walked home for the winning score. Game 2 is sure to be as exciting as Roth takes the mound in search of back to back championship wins...a feat possibly never achieved in the history of the CWS (still researching this). However, plenty of records can be still be reached or broken by the Gamecocks in Game 2!

UPDATE!!! Gamecocks won back to back titles! Along with that feat, they broke the record for most consecutive tournament wins in the College World Series tournament at 16 games, and they broke the record for most CWS Championship wins at 10 games straight. A stellar pitching performance from Roth through 8 1/3 innings led to a short outing for John Taylor who extended his college baseball leading 50 pitching appearances this season. A quick save by the prodigy Price and the Gamecocks were in a dog pile once again, only this time they were opening a stadium instead of closing it. Congrats to the Gamecocks, and we'll be on the lookout next season for the hat trick!
